In times when you experience a lot of anxiety or stress, it is important to stand firmly with both feet on the ground. These Ayurvedic bliss balls help you a little with that. A recipe specially developed for everyone with a Vata imbalance. If Vata dosha currently has the upper hand in your body, you may suffer from constipation, bloating, dry skin, irregular menstrual cycle or feelings of anxiety and tension in your body & mind.

Ayurvedic recipe: bliss balls for Vata dosha

Vata dosha is one of the 3 Ayurvedic doshas in your body. This dosha is dominated by the elements of wind and space and stimulated by stress. That means that the more stress you experience, the more Vata dosha becomes unbalanced. Vata dosha is involved in everything to do with movement and communication. From your breathing to your bowel movements and all communication through your nervous system.

Autumn and Vata

Autumn is the season where Vata dosha is always naturally higher than the rest of the year. Quite logical, because autumn is the most changeable of all seasons. Everything changes, one moment we are enjoying a lovely autumn sun, a little later it is pouring down from the sky, it is getting colder, the days are getting shorter and the wind is blowing us in all directions. The elements of wind and space are not only reflected in the leaves that are blown off the trees to make room for new fresh leaves in the spring, you can also find the element of wind in your body. Literally in the form of bloating or flatulence, but perhaps also in an endless stream of thoughts.

More sweet & grounding

The trees have now released almost all leaves to focus on their roots, on “grounding”. And that’s exactly what we need to do too, with warming, nourishing meals and herbs. You create balance by working with opposites. Periods of unrest and stress are therefore balanced with stability and grounding. The sweet taste calms the nervous system and is of the 6 flavors the taste that gives the most stability. The most important flavor to balance Vata dosha. And no, that does not mean that you have to sprint to the cookie jar. Refined foods and sugars can make your mind happy for a moment, but cause a physical stress response in your body. Therefore, go for natural, pure, sweet ingredients that have been processed as little as possible.

Dried fruits, nuts & herbs

In these bliss balls you will find natural healthy sweet flavors in the form of nuts and dried fruit, as well as herbs that balance Vata. Dates and plums are ideal for Vata as they are the least dry of the dried fruits and have a mild laxative effect. Cinnamon and ginger are warming and stimulate digestion, which is often somewhat irregular when Vata is out of balance. Cardamom supports the natural downward movement of Vata from your head to your toes. And cinnamon and cardamom help reduce bloating, gas and flatulence. Nuts and tahini (made from sesame seeds) add oily qualities that help reduce dryness in your body. Nuts are naturally a bit harder to digest, but roasting them makes them a bit easier to digest.

This is what you need

25 grams of walnuts

75 grams of almonds

75 grams of cashew nuts

100 grams of dates

50 grams of prunes

2 tablespoons of tahini

1 tablespoon of maple syrup

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

1 teaspoon of cardamom

½ teaspoon of ginger powder

pinch of sea salt

food processor

This is how you make the bliss balls

Roast the walnuts in a frying pan without oil or butter for a few minutes. Chop the walnuts in the food processor and set the walnut crunch aside in a bowl. Roast the almonds and cashew nuts in a frying pan for a few minutes and chop roughly in the food processor.

Are your dates and / or prunes very dry? Then put them in boiled water for 10 minutes so that they become nice and sticky.

Add all ingredients to the almonds and cashews in the food processor (except the walnuts) and mix until you get a sticky consistency. Is the mass too dry? Add some extra maple syrup or dates. Too wet? Add some extra chopped nuts. Taste the mixture and season with some extra herbs if necessary.

With damp hands (against sticking), roll about 15 balls and roll through the walnut crunch. Let it stiffen in the fridge for 20 minutes, but preferably eat at room temperature, because that is better for your digestion. You can keep these bliss balls in the fridge for over a week.
