Becoming a yoga therapist
[vc_column_text]Becoming a Yoga Therapist is often a very conscious choice. It means that you are looking for depth in your profession and would like to guide people during a difficult period in their life. Either physical or emotional and usually both. If you are interested in following such a training, you first need to realize what you would like and how much you can invest in time and money. Make sure you know your why. This will help you make a choice.Teacher training and Accreditation
Where it comes to accreditation the IAYT is the most well known association. You need to have finished at least 550 hours and for a full registration even 850 hours. There are also courses from the Ayurveda principle (registered at the IAYT or NAMA) and there are teacher trainings that are given by schools that are registered with the Yoga Alliance. Also there are other, more recently established associations to connect with like the Council for Yoga Accreditation International (CYAI).
Be aware that a minimum of 200 hours of yoga training is generally required before you start with Yoga Therapy. And on a personal note, it is advised to have some experience in the field, not only to have understanding about teaching but also to start creating an understanding about all the different bodies and, most important, to make mistakes so you can learn from them and find your own personal reason why to become a yoga therapist.
Choosing a Teacher Training
Take the trouble to immerse yourself in the matter. Find out whether the content of the training suits you and if you have a connection with the teacher. If you are thinking of entering a full training course of 850 hours, be aware that there is a lot involved. You have several exams and you have to do case studies. However, once you have made this choice, it will change your life in a positive way. You will treat yourself and your own body differently. You get a different view on yoga and guiding clients. Yoga Therapy often complements other professions within the wellness world very well, such as counseling or physiotherapy. It creates a whole new world with new possibilities.
