Finding my place in the world
For a long time, I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do. I was born and raised in the Netherlands and after high school, I just couldn’t find my way. I moved to Israel when I was twenty, where I met my husband and lived there for ten years.
I loved living in Tel Aviv, the sun was almost always shining, the good food, the sense of community. I found it so relaxing, loved going to the beach, the markets, spending most of my days outdoors. I worked in pubs, owned a flower shop at one point. It was all fine, but I missed having a passion. My husband is very passionate about his work and that made me wonder. Could I have that as well? Or maybe I was more the type to work here and there?
When I was thirty we moved to the Netherlands. After a while I started attending yoga classes. I loved it, the relaxing attitude towards not pushing yourself, the savasana in the end of every class. Of course, I found out that not every yoga class is like a breeze. Hard stuff came up, challenging asanas were met. But the sense of belonging and the sense of community was present. Soon after I decided to start my first teacher training. The kids were very young then, but I wanted it very much, we made it work. 🙂
Fast forward I have been a yoga teacher for many years now. I love to teach. Teaching people that they can find the relaxation within, that they don’t need all these external factors.Trying to make people feel the possibilities of their body and mind, and finding more peace with their limitations.
I could go on a few more pages about all the things I love about yoga. A few years after my first teacher training, a second one followed, also a few workshops here and there. And now, here I am, in the beginning of my journey on the third teacher training. Why another teacher training you might wonder?
Yoga therapy is for everybody and that is the main reason. Through the years I have met people that don’t like yoga, they prefer other types of movement, some feel intimidated, some don’t like the silence, the meditation and many more reasons. In my opinion the benefits of yoga should be accessible to everybody.
